Participants in the signing ceremony in Moscow

Metafrax Chemicals’s 2nd melamine plant takes another step ahead toward the complete realization as Casale and Metafrax Chemicals signed a contract in Moscow on November, 10, 2021 for the last phase of the whole project, namely covering the execution of engineering, procurement of all materials and construction.

The signing ceremony took place in Moscow in the presence of Russia’s Industry and Trade Deputy Minister, Mr. Mikhail Ivanov and the Head of Perm Region Mr. Dmitry Makhonin.

The second melamine unit is slated to become operational in the course of 2025 and will be fully integrated with the large complex - currently being completed - which includes, in addition to a substantial revamping of the existing methanol plants, an ammonia plant, a urea plant and the first melamine plant plus a CO2 recovery unit, with Casale as EP contractor.

With this new 40,000 ton/year plant, Metafrax will double its production capacity within a few years, thus becoming the first melamine producer in Russia and one of the main ones in Europe, further diversifying the production mix.

“We are extremely pleased with this further sign of trust shown by Metafrax Chemicals, which by choosing us as a partner also for the second melamine unit has thus strengthened a relationship that began decades ago, and which has brought great benefits to both companies. It is also nice to see that Metafrax Chemicals, thanks to the new plant, will grow even more and become more competitive on world markets " - commented Mr. F. Zardi, CEO of Casale.

“It’s a challenging and expensive project, but it’s our strategical decision. We want to sell melamine to the market as well because all the consumers are the companies, with which we one way or another work both at our Austrian facility and in Russia” - commented PJSC Metafrax Chemicals, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Armen Garslyan.
