The AN fattening process was developed as way to obtain larger granules than those produced in prilling towers while avoiding the high investment cost of a new grass route granulation plant.

Besides, at only a fraction of the cost of a fully-fledged granulation plant it is possible to:

  • increase up to 3-fold the capacity of an existing prilling tower while obtaining granules of the desired size (d50 = from 2.8 to 3.5 mm)
  • obtain granules with much better physical properties than prills, similar to those obtained by direct granulation

The plant is much easier to start up than a classical granulation unit since hot prills are immediately available. A preliminary warming up of the granulation loop is not needed.
The amount of the re-melted fines and coarse particles is less than 10%, the same as in the prilling process.
