The axial radial design assures low average CO outlet concentration on account of the smaller size and greater activity of the catalyst, high reliability and longer catalyst life because of higher resistance to poisons and water carry-over and longer catalyst life because pressure drop across the unit remains stable throughout the lifetime of the catalyst.
Maintenance and catalyst replacement are easy in axial-radial shift converters: the open-top catalyst bed allows full access for catalyst loading, while bottom drop-out pipes are provided for unloading.
