The primary reformer is a fired chemical reactor where the heat for the endothermic reforming reaction is supplied by the combustion of the fuel gas.
This is the critical and the most expensive single item included in the methanol plant and shall be accurately designed in order to guarantee a high performance along with a high mechanical reliability.
The reformer design proposed by Casale is based on the feed back of different reformer type and on the proven know-how: consequently Casale selects the top-fired configuration for reformer, having minimum number of burners and a very compact construction, becoming, therefore, the logical and most cost-effective choice.
